  • Methodology
    The methodology comprises of five major steps: analysing internal product data building a supply chain process map, defining boundary conditions and identifying data requirements, collecting primary and secondary data, and calculating carbon emissions by supply chain process steps.

    Static CO2 labels do not capture dynamic parameters which influence individual products: transportation, refrigeration and eating being some prime examples. Emerald leverages Near Field Communication (NFC) technology and Quick Response (QR) codes to display dynamic carbon labels on mobile phones. This empowers consumers with  information that takes into account the dynamic nature of carbon emissions and the potential difference in footprints between instances of the same product. The solution also incorporates a dashboard that displays at-a-glance graphical reports for management and offers users the option to drill down from the high-level reports to more detailed reports, analyses and even raw data
